The campaign map is twice as large as that of the original game, and incorporates a new magic system that allows players to better prepare for and defend against arcane attacks. Central characters gain powerful abilities that can change the course of a fight. King Arthur II runs on an enhanced, in-house developed engine, which provides smoother animations and supports as many as 4,000 soldiers in a single battle.

Players move their troops and choose their battles in a campaign over-map. Real-time strategy battles are geared toward squadron-level control and formational tactics. As in the original King Arthur games, players engage in Total War-style conquest of a fantasy interpretation of the legendary realm. The legendary king is called to lead Britannia once more, against a monstrous new threat. The sequel to Neocore's "role-playing war game" finds the grail shattered, Camelot in ruins, and her greatest heroes scattered across the land.
